How to avoid Gum Recession?

Gum recession is when the roots of your gums are already exposed. Looking at the mirror you may not notice anything odd about your teeth and gums. However, if you look a little closer you will notice that your teeth are now larger. If you have receding gums, it is a sign of a poor oral hygiene.  It is a mark that you ignore brushing your teeth regularly.

Dentist recommends brush your teeth at least twice a day. The purpose of this is to rinse of the cavities collected on your mouth each time you eat. If you forget to brush your teeth there will be a plaque build up that leads to gum problems such as receding gums. It actually takes discipline to habitually brush your teeth. Once you have self-discipline and determination to clean your teeth then even if you are already very tired and sleepy you would stand up and brush your teeth.

Once untreated on it earlier stage, one of the dentist solution is surgery.  This can be a very distressing experience to many people especially for teenagers. Yes, gum recession can also happen to teenagers especially if you disregard the value of oral hygiene.  True that it is common to adults because their immune system is now weak.

How to avoid receding gums?

  • Brush and Floss. Make sure to brush your teeth every after meal. This will reduce the plaque build up and freshen up your breath. Use dental floss on hard to reach areas of your teeth especially for in between teeth.
  • Validate your dental tools.  Check your toothbrush and toothpaste. How long have you been using your toothbrush? Are the bristles still intact? For people with gum problems and sensitive teeth it is recommended to use soft bristled toothbrush and toothpaste for sensitive teeth for gentler brushing.
  • Visit your dentist.  Schedule a check up with your dentist every now and then.  Your dentist will be able to diagnose at an early stage if you have any gum problems. With this, further gums diseases will be prevented. Remember that gum diseases can also be signs and symptoms of more serious health problems like heart diseases, stroke and diabetes. Ignoring simple gum issues may lead to a fatal disease.

If you want to live longer and healthier, then you should take action now to avoid regrets later on. Remember that it is best to prevent the disease first.
